See what's happening in Xavier's Communications Department!

X-PRO is an informal group of Xavier Students interested in public relations.  Open to all majors, X-PRO promotes PR student accomplishments and helps students network on and off campus.  Public Relations students work with local and national PR firms, various companies and government bodies.  Public Relations students also work closely with local not-profit organizations to address inequities.  PR students make web sites for local groups, do voter registration drives, promote alternative crime prevention strategies, sponsor health education, conduct national campaigns for volunteers to rebuild new Orleans, as well as other community-directed initiatives.

The Xavier Film Group (XFG) is a student-led organization that meets several times throughout the year.  Students view and critique films, learn production techniques and gain an appreciation of film as art.  XFG also invites filmmakers and industry professionals to speak on various aspects of filmmaking and film industry.  The goal of the organization is for students to produce one short film per year.

The Xavier Herald - The department is home of the Xavier Herald, the only newspaper from a historically black college that is included in the Associated Collegiate Press Hall of Fame. The Herald is a source for students and staff to find out about campus events as well as community news and events that affect the university.

XTV (Xavier Television) - This student-run operation broadcasts on the local cable public access channel. Students produce professional style telecasts during each semester. Such shows include: XU Factor, X-Cuse U, XTV News One, and Campus Connection.

Da Stoop - Xavier has it's first radio station! Students rejoice in a step toward a student-operated radio broadcast.

NSSLHA (National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association) - The National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is a pre-professional membership association for students interested in the study of communication sciences and disorders. Membership in national NSSLHA is available to undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral students enrolled full- or part-time in a communication sciences program or related major.

Communicating Common Ground - Communicating Common Ground – The Communication Studies program partners with this nation-wide service-learning initiative that links college communication courses to K-12 students. Each semester, students in Xavier’s honors public speaking course (CMST 1011H) partner with K-12 students in New Orleans to use public speaking concepts in lessons of cultural tolerance. Over 70 Communicating Common Ground partnerships have been created since the program began in 1999 .
