BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Martino has been the recipient of several Personnel Preparation grants from the United States Department of Education. Currently she is the Project Director of Project Buena Lingua, whose aim is to increase the number of Speech-Language Pathology Assistants who possess an introductory knowledge of Spanish language, culture and communication disorders. She was the Director of Projects Affirm and SEEK (Special Educators Embracing Knowledge). Project Affirm's aim was to increase the number of African American speech-language pathologists specifically trained to work in urban, high-poverty areas. Through this grant, sixteen students completed their final year at Xavier and two years of graduate school with more than adequate financial support and training. Project SEEK's aim was to increase the number of African American teachers certified in special education trained in the linguistic underpinnings of reading.
