Short Professional Biography

Dr. Ali earned a B.S. in Biochemistry in 2000, and received her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in 2006 at the University of Texas at Austin. She worked on the development of three dimensional sensor arrays for the detection and amplification of nucleic acids and was a recipient of the Dorothy B. Banks research fellowship. Dr. Ali served as a postdoctoral fellow at Tulane University'Äôs School of Medicine from 2007-09 where she worked with miniaturized antibody sensors engineered for the detection of heavy metal contaminants. She joined Xavier University of Louisiana in 2010 as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry.

Research Interest

Dr. Ali's research interests are in the field of bioanalytical chemistry and include developing detection strategies using electrochemical or optical signaling outputs. Specifically, she is interested in aptamer based sensor scaffolds for the direct and indirect detection of miRNAs, SNP's and protein biomarkers as well as relevant small-molecule targets. Her work aims to further the understanding of molecular level interactions between nucleic acid probes and their selected targets and will aid in the detection efficiency of clinical and environmental targets.
