Short Professional Biography

Dr. Hua Mei received a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Sichuan Normal University in 1999. And then she worked at Chengdu Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences from 1999 to 2001, involved monomer synthesis with organic metallic catalyst. She earned her Ph.D. from Clemson University in 2006, working with Prof. Darryl D. DesMarteau on Perfluoroalkyl(aryl) Sulfonimide Zwitterions for Fuel Cell. After graduation, she taught at Loyola College in Maryland for one year. As a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Colorado at Boulder, she worked with Prof. Josef Michl on unsaturated olefin polymerization using organic catalyst (2007-2009). She joined Xavier in fall 2009.

Research Interest

Dr. Mei’s research interests are in the area of synthetic organic materials. The overall objective of her research is to provide new materials for electrolyte in Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell. She currently is working on the synthesis of perfluorinated diazonium salts and polymers. Various characterization methods are used, such as NMR, IR, X-ray and GC/MS.
