Some History

The Xavier campus is beautiful and modern now in most respects. We have effective faculty and staff, well-designed programs, up-to-date facilities, and broadly available information technology resources. The part about facilities has not always been true, though we have always had good people and programs. Here are some tidbits from the history of the Chemistry Department.

• After WWII the department was housed in the Old Chemistry Building.
• The Norman C. Francis Academic/Science Complex was built . . .
• . . . and the Old Chemistry Building was demolished.
• We still didn't have enough space, so an Extension to the Norman C. Francis Building was planned.

We are housed on the third floor of the Norman C. Francis Academic/Science Complex today. Here is our Facilities page.

None of this would have happened without the people who built Xavier University of Louisiana and the Chemistry Department. One of those people was Dr. Leonard Price, who contributed the pictures for this section. Those portions of this page are under construction.
