Karen Nichols, Ph.D.

Distance Education Coordinator

Karen N. Nichols is the Distance Education Coordinator at Xavier University of Louisiana. She holds a doctorate in Romance Languages from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Her Bachelor's and Master's are from the University of New Orleans. She has been involved in distance education for over twenty years. She has developed and taught online courses in French and Spanish and has conducted numerous workshops and mentoring training sessions for online instructors. She holds memberships in POD (Professional and Organizational Network of Higher Education), TAAA (Text and Academic Authors Association), Quality Matters, the Online Learning Consortium, LaCUE (Louisiana Computer-Using Educators) and Francophonie des Amériques. She is part of Xavier's Center for Continuing Studies and Distance Education (http://xula.edu/ccsde). In this capacity she works with faculty, staff and students and strives to meet their online training and academic needs.  She is an adjunct as well, teaching French online.She also assists with planning and practices for the Graduate School, Summer School and any other Continuing Studies programs.
