HBCU CAREER FAIR

The third annual New Orleans Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Career Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, 2009.  This event is sponsored by the Career Services Offices of Dillard, Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) and Xavier Universities. Xavier will serve as host of this year's event. The fair will be held in the Xavier University Center Ballroom located at 4980 Dixon St., New Orleans, LA 70125.

REGISTRATION
Each organization will have one 6 ft. table.  If you require additional space you may rent two tables.  The registration fee is $500 for a single table (which includes breakfast and lunch for three representatives) or $850.00 for two tables with five representatives.  You will also have the opportunity to place an advertisement in the directory which will be given out to student attendees.

SHIPPING DISPLAY UNITS/MATERIALS
Employers may ship display units and materials to Career Services to be pre-positioned in the organization’s assigned area. If you want to ship your displays after our fair you must provide destination-shipping labels prior to career fair close-out.

HOTEL ACCOMODATIONS

The Holiday Inn Downtown Superdome will be the host hotel for the HBCU Career Fair. The Holiday Inn is located at 330 Loyola Avenue and it is easily accessible to Xavier’s campus and other areas of New Orleans.  A block of rooms has been reserved for the HBCU Career Fair participants at a special discount rate starting at $90.00/night. From the airport to the University Center:
Take I-10 East to New Orleans. Take Carrollton Avenue (exit 232) and follow Carrollton until you can make a U-turn (about 2 blocks). After making the U-turn, come up to the Exxon Station (at Washington Avenue) and turn right. Follow Washington Ave. about 3 blocks, then turn left at Pine Street and drive across the canal. Make an immediate right turn onto Drexel Drive and proceed one block. (You may also enter the building from Dixon Street).

From downtown to the University Center:
Take I-10 West (toward Baton Rouge). Take the Carrollton Avenue South exit. Cross the canal and turn left onto Washington Avenue. Follow Washington Avenue to Pine Street, turn left and drive across the canal. Make an immediate right turn onto Drexel Drive and proceed one block. (You may also enter the building from Dixon Street).

Where to park at Xavier?
Set-up for the employers will start Monday, September 28, 2009 from at 4:00p.m.-6:00 pm. and on the day of the event from 8:00 a.m.-9:45 a.m. You may drop off your displays in one of the 5-minute parking zones located in the rear and front of the building, and then proceed to the parking lots.  Parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in the university lots near the university center on Drexel Drive in Zone L, and Zone M (located on the campus map). Also, feel free to park in any available space near the University Center in Zone A. Please do not park illegally on any of the city streets as you may get ticketed or towed.

The Mardi Gras Invitational is the largest career fair in New Orleans and the state of Louisiana. The opportunity to recruit students from seven area colleges and universities awaits you.  The Mardi Gras Invitational Career and Interviewing Fair is a yearly event hosted by the Association of New Orleans Career Services Offices (ANOCSO).

NOLA Citywide Teacher Fair

The New Orleans Citywide Teacher Fair is an annual event intended for school districts from across the country to meet and possibly hire the best teachers in the New Orleans area. The primary intent for the NOLA Teacher Fair is to connect primary and secondary education (P-12) majors with school districts, private and parochial schools, independent and charter schools for possible employment.

The New Orleans Citywide Teacher Fair is held in cooperation of the following institutions:

Our Lady of Holy Cross College
Southern University at New Orleans
University of New Orleans
Xavier University of Louisiana

Each of the above listed schools provides instruction to education majors and those interested in a career in education.
