Beyond the specific courses of study, a number of special activities and programs provide further enrichment for business students. These include:
The Center for Economic Education
The Center for Economic Education at Xavier University is the only university based collaboration in New Orleans with the Louisiana Council on Economic Education (based in Baton Rouge) and the National Council on Economic Education (based in New York).
The Xavier Center for Economic Education has provided outreach opportunities for K-12 teachers throughout the Greater New Orleans Metropolitan area to improve pedagogies in economics. Activities that the Center has provided include:
- Seminars to integrate Power Point with Virtual Economics (teaching software produced through funding from the National Science Foundation).
- Workshops on implementing the Stock Market Game.
- Continuing Education Classes in Financial Fitness
- Conferences on Environmental Economics (co-sponsored with the Florida Council for Economic Education).
Services that the Center has provided include:
- Assistance to the Educational Testing Institute in developing the Advance Placement Test in Economics.
- Evaluation of Economics Teaching Methods as part of the competition hosted by the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation (NASDAQ)
- Evaluation of Student Research as part of the competition hosted by the New Orleans Financial Management Association
Participation in national conferences has included:
- Presentation of papers and participating as discussants at economic education sessions at the Allied Social Science Association Conferences
- Providing logistical assistance for the hosting in New Orleans of the 2003 Annual Conference of the National Council on Economic Education
