Mission:

The Entrepreneurship Institute’s purpose is to infuse the spirit of entrepreneurship into Xavier’s curriculum, conduct seminars, plan community outreach initiatives, and develop a program in entrepreneurial studies.

Our Focus:

According to Black Enterprise magazine 86% of young African American students desire to start a business. With this in mind Xavier’s Entrepreneurship Institute focuses on the desires and needs of the students. To stimulate interest in entrepreneurship, the institute sponsors seminars on various topics.  Some of the seminars presented by the Entrepreneurship Institute are:

  • Seminar on Real Estate where students were exposed to a Mortgage Banker from Chicago, a real estate leasing expert from South Carolina, and a major national real estate agency.
  • Seminar on Entrepreneurship and Biotechnology was presented by Zazell Dudley, owner of a bio-technology firm in Louisiana/
  • The Business of Science seminar was presented by Dr. Sudhir Sinha, President and CEO of ReliaGene Technology.  A privately-held corporation, ReliaGene has grown rapidly by consistently providing accurate DNA test results for use in both civil and criminal courts of law, and through an ongoing commitment to technological advancement and personalized customer service. Since 1990, ReliaGene has successfully produced genetic profiles of well over 400,000 biological samples.

While providing our students with seminars on cutting edge topics, the Entrepreneurship Institute also helps the community. Xavier’s Entrepreneurship courses give students the infrastructure necessary to own and operate successful businesses. The learning process includes conducting case studies for actual regional businesses that need help. The students enhance their expertise in entrepreneurship and the business receives a portfolio containing a business plan.
