The Gold Nuggets will compete October 24-25 in the Big Easy Classic at
the University of New Orleans. Matches will be played at UNO's University Tennis Center.
It will be XU's final competition of the fall semester. In the spring, the XU women will attempt to qualify for the NAIA National
Championship for the fourth consecutive season.
Nour Abbes defeated Oklahoma Baptist's Anastasiya Baranova 6-1, 6-4
to win the NAIA singles title of the ITA /
USTA National Small College Championships. Then Abbes was runner-up to
Lynn's Valentine Confalonieri in the "Super Bowl," losing 6-4, 6-2 in the final.

The Gold Nuggets were 17-7 overall and 0-0 in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference in 2014.
The Gold Nuggets were No. 3 in the 2014 NAIA coaches postseason poll.
In the Intercollegiate Tennis Association NAIA 2014 postseason rankings of May 28,
XU had three ranked singles players. Nour Abbes was second, Kourtney Howell was 13th, and Brion Flowers was 35th.
In the doubles rankings,
Howell and Flowers were second, and Abbes and Simone-Alyse Ewell were ninth.
Game, Set, Match and Degree:
Of the 31 senior female and male student-athletes to play for Coach Alan Green,
26 received degrees from Xavier or are still enrolled.
• Eight of the last 10 XU women's teams qualified for the
NAIA National Championship. The Gold Nuggets qualified in 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014,
and the first five teams all won first-round matches.
• XU won seven of eight Gulf Coast Athletic Conference championships
(2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010). There was no GCAC title awarded in 2011, 2012 or 2013,
but the Nuggets added to their titles when they won NAIA unaffiliated group championships in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
• The Gold Nuggets were in the NAIA top 25 for 44
consecutive polls from February 2004-March 8, 2011. The streak did not include 2006,
when Xavier did not compete due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina.
• Six consecutive seasons (2004-10) the Gold Nuggets were in the final NAIA top 25.
They appeared in the final top 25 in eight of the past nine seasons.
• The Gold Nuggets had a 54-dual GCAC regular-season win streak.
It began after a 5-4 loss to Spring Hill on April 13, 2002, and it ended February 6, 2010,
when they lost 5-4 at Mobile. Xavier has won 12 straight since Mobile,
giving the Nuggets 66 victories in their last 67 GCAC regular-season duals.
• XU's women have 31 victories against NCAA Division I opponents during the last 12 seasons.
• Six consecutive XU teams included the GCAC Player of the Year — Dominique Bell
in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008 and Anastesia Opata in 2009 and 2010. The GCAC had no all-conference tennis awards in 2011, 2012 or 2013.
