Next:   The Gold Nuggets will conclude their season on Saturday, November 21 in the 2009 NAIA Men's and Women's Cross Country National Championships at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash. The women's 5,000-meter race (3.1 miles) will begin at 11:45 a.m. PST (1:45 p.m. New Orleans time). The 8,000-meter men's race will start at 10:30 a.m. PST (12:30 p.m. New Orleans time). The meet will be Xavier's ninth of the season. Both Xavier teams qualified for nationals for the second consecutive year. Vancouver is approximately 10 miles north of Portland, Ore., and 165 miles south of Seattle.

Most Recently:   The Gold Nuggets finished first out of seven teams at Clinton, Miss., to win their fourth consecutive Gulf Coast Athletic Conference championship. XU's Ebony Harding ran 5,000 meters in 19 minutes, 41.33 seconds to lead 44 runners and win her first GCAC individual championship after three runner-up finishes. Harding, Sabrina Vargas, Anna D'Souza and Brianna Dekine were All-GCAC by virtue of their top-10 finishes. Harding has four top-five finishes this season and 12 in her career. Seven times in her career she's been a runner-up.   story   results

2009 Rankings:   Xavier did not receive a vote in any of the national polls. The Gold Nuggets were No. 1 in seven of nine GCAC ratings. (They were second on September 14 and October 26.) The November 8 final conference ratings: 1, Xavier. 2, Spring Hill. 3, Loyola. 4, Belhaven. 5, SUNO, 6, Mobile. 7, Mobile.

2008 Rankings:   Xavier received a school-record 14 points in the preseason NAIA top 25 poll announced August 19 and was 32nd among the 44 schools which received votes. But thereafter the Nuggets received one point, and it came in the September 16 poll. The Nuggets were No. 1 in the GCAC rankings six times during the season, including the final four. They dropped to No. 2 in the rankings of September 29 and October 6.

Harding Has It:   Ebony Harding's victory at the 2009 GCAC Championships solidified her standing as the Nuggets' most celebrated runner. She won the conference title after three consecutive GCAC runner-up finishes — 2006, 2007 and 2008. Harding is the only Xavier runner, male or female, to make the All-Louisiana team more than once. She's done it three times (2006, 2007, 2008). Harding was on the All-NAIA Region XIII second team in 2006 and 2007. She holds XU women's records for 5,000 and 6,000 meters, and six times she has broken the 5K mark. She's run the eight fastest 5K times in Gold Nuggets history.
