The Gold Nuggets will play their first home game of the season — a 5 p.m.
exhibition against the New Orleans Lady Hurricanes on Saturday, November 7 at The Barn.
The Lady Hurricanes beat Xavier 62-61 on November 1, 2008. Please note that tip-off time
was moved up two hours.
The Record:
2 wins, 0 losses in 2009-10. The Nuggets were 23-9 (13-5 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference) in 2008-09. Xavier was third in
the GCAC regular season and reached the semifinals of the GCAC Tournament.
Most Recently:
Xavier won both its games in the Port City Tip-Off Classic at Mobile, Ala. The Nuggets defeated Talladega 72-50
and Martin Methodist 69-62.
Preseason All-GCAC:
XU senior Brittany Powell was selected to the 10-player team.

GCAC coaches picked the Gold Nuggets to finish second out of 10 teams.

Rankings:
The Gold Nuggets received 37 points in the preseason NAIA Division I coaches poll of 2009-10. That
ranked them 28th among all teams receiving votes. Xavier ranked as high as 16th in 2008-09.
The next poll will be announced December 7.

Streaking at Home:
Xavier will enter the 2009-10 season with a four-game winning streak at The Barn and 79
wins in its past 82 games at its campus facility, which opened in 1937. In conference games
the Nuggets have won three straight, 15 of their past 16 and 48 of their past 50.
Most Recently:
Third-seeded Xavier lost 59-56 at second-seeded LSU-Shreveport on March 6 in the
GCAC Tournament semifinals. It was the Nuggets' final game of the 2008-09 season.
Still Rolling:
Since an 80-73 non-conference loss at Delta State
on Jan. 3, 2003, the Gold Nuggets are 146-42 (.777).
2008-09 Highlights:
• Junior forward Brittany Powell received honorable mention on the
NAIA Division I All-America team.
• Made the NAIA Division I preseason top 25 (No. 19) for
the first time since 2004-05.
• Defeated three automatic qualifiers for the NAIA Division I National Championship —
Berry, LSU-Shreveport and Loyola — and also beat Division II tournament entrant Florida Memorial in a November exhibition.
• Reached 20 victories for a school-record-tying eighth consecutive
season and the 16th time in 17 seasons.
• Sophomore forward/center Johnna Williams blocked 67 shots and broke
the school season record of 58 set by Gwendolyn Brule in 1981-82.
• Freshman guard Jasmine Grant was 4-for-4 from 3-point
range in the first half of the regular-season opener.
• Bo Browder matched the best eight-game start (7-1)
of his 10 seasons as Xavier's head coach.
• One victory against a ranked NAIA opponent — 57-52
against No. 23 Berry on November 14.
• 4,321 fans attended the Allstate Sugar Bowl Crosstown Classic, a January 24 doubleheader at
New Orleans Arena involving the men's and women's teams of Xavier and Dillard. Attendance was
more than 150 percent higher than the previous season.

• Christina Warren
of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Los Osos High School and Chaffey College.
