ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Gold Nuggets win three sets, but Idaho wins dual 9-0
March 12, 2013
Results
NEW ORLEANS — Idaho defeated Xavier University
of Louisiana 9-0 Tuesday in a women's tennis dual match at the new XU Tennis Center.
The Vandals (6-7) of NCAA Division I won every set but
three against the Gold Nuggets (7-6), who are ranked 10th in the NAIA. It was
the third consecutive victory for Idaho and the first loss for Xavier after
a 3-0 performance at Montgomery, Ala., in the AUM Invitational, which ended Sunday.
It was Xavier's sixth loss this season and fifth in a row against
D-I opponents. The Nuggets' lone victory against that level was at Prairie View A&M on
Feb. 17. The Nuggets have thrived against other opponents, going 5-0 against
top-25 NAIA teams.
Winning sets for Xavier wre Kourtney Howell at No. 1
singles, Brion Flowers at No. 2 and Simone-Alyse Ewell at No. 5.
Victoria Lozano defeated Howell 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-5),
Almudena Sanz beat Flowers 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, and Belen Barcenilla defeated
Ewell 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).
"We came out flat and got off to a slow start on all the
courts, doubles and singles," XU coach Alan Green said. "We played well in the middle
and at the end of our matches, but we need to be able to pick up the intensity
from the start."
Constance Alexander clinched for the Vandals with a 6-4, 6-2
victory against Amanda Materre. It was Materre's first loss this semester in
10 matches at No. 3 singles.
Howell and Flowers led 4-3 at No. 1 doubles against Lozano
and Sanz before the Vandals rallied for an 8-5 decision.
Xavier is 2-3 at its campus facility, which opened
in October. All the losses are to D-Is. It was Idaho's second victory in three
days at the XU Tennis Center; the Vandals defeated Youngstown State 4-3 on Sunday.
Both Xavier teams will play another NCAA D-I opponent,
Alcorn State, at 3 p.m. Friday at the XU Tennis Center. Admission is free to all
XU home tennis events. The Gold Rush, like the Nuggets, are ranked 10th in the NAIA.
