February 27, 2013

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Xavier University of Louisiana's Dannton Jackson was voted Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Co-Coach of the Year in men's basketball by his peers. Three XU seniors — Anthony Simmons, Denzell Erves and Wanto Joseph — were voted All-GCAC.
Conference honors were announced Wednesday night at a banquet prior to the GCAC Tournament, which will begin Thursday. Xavier, the regular-season co-champion for the second consecutive year and the tournament's No. 1 seed, will play Dillard in the opening round at 2:30 p.m. at Barton Coliseum.

No. 13 ranking in NAIA Division I. He received the GCAC award for the second consecutive season. He shared the award with Philander Smith's Sam Weaver, whose Panthers tied Xavier in the GCAC standings.
Simmons, a 6-foot-8 forward from Rochester, N.Y., and a graduate of Allendale Columbia School, is All-GCAC for the third consecutive year. He is the sixth Gold Rush player — the others were Shaun Dumas, Jimmie Wilder, Juan Mercier, Derrick Collins and Merlin Peters — to be honored three times. Simmons averages 12.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game this season and is XU's all-time leader with a .628 field-goal percentage.
Erves, a 6-7 senior forward from Vicksburg, Miss., and a graduate of Vicksburg High School, averages 13.9 points and a team-leading 9.4 rebounds per game. He shares the NAIA Division I lead with 16 double-doubles. Erves is All-GCAC for the second consecutive season.
Joseph, a 5-9 senior guard from New Orleans and a graduate of O. Perry Walker High School, leads the Gold Rush with 16.1 points and 6.2 assists per game and has scored in double figures in 29 of 30 games. He has four point-assist double-doubles and is the second player in Gold Rush history to collect 450 points and 150 assists in the same season.
Philander Smith senior forward Alvin Nance was voted Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. Dillard forward Jarrain Jenkins was chosen Freshman of the Year.
