Browder, Franklin, Gaston-Loyd earn All-GCAC honors

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Xavier University of
Louisiana's Bo Browder was voted Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Co-Coach of the
Year in women's basketball by his peers. Two XU players, SiMon Franklin and
Whitney Gaston-Loyd, were voted All-GCAC.
Conference honors were announced Wednesday night at a
banquet prior to the GCAC Tournament, which will begin Thursday. Xavier, a
three-time defending champion, will play Fisk in the opening round at noon at Barton Coliseum.
Browder, in his 14th season, led the Gold Nuggets to a
24-4 record,

their third consecutive GCAC regular-season championship and a No.
10 ranking in NAIA Division I. He received the GCAC award for the fourth
consecutive season and the sixth time overall. He shared the award with SUNO's
Elston King, whose Lady Knights finished one game behind Xavier.
Franklin, a 5-foot-7 senior guard from Baton Rouge,
La., and a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy, is All-GCAC for the second
consecutive year. She leads Xavier with 10.5 points per game and 66 steals.
Franklin is one of nine XU females to reach 1,000 points, 300 rebounds and 200
steals in a career.
Gaston-Loyd, a 6-foot junior center from Shreveport,
La., and a graduate of Southwood High School, is the Gold Nuggets' No. 2 scorer
with 9.1 points per game. She shoots a team-leading 53 percent from the floor
and leads the team with 19 blocked shots. In her first year at Xavier after
transferring from NCAA Division I's Arkansas-Little Rock, Gaston-Loyd has
scored in double figures 14 times.
SUNO senior guard April Perry was voted Player of the
Year. Dillard guard/forward Alena Evans was chosen Freshman of the Year, and
Tougaloo junior forward Chasity Kearney was voted Newcomer of the Year.
