XU sophomores Materre, Soifer win GCAC weekly honors

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana sophomores
Amanda Materre and Nikita Soifer are the first Gulf Coast Athletic Conference
Players of the Week in tennis for the spring 2013 semester.
Materre, from Richmond, Texas, and a graduate of
Westside High School, was 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles to help the
Gold Nuggets win dual matches against NAIA No. 18 Oklahoma Baptist and
NCAA Division I member Prairie View A&M. On Friday she defeated OBU's
Mariana Rosa, No. 44 in the ITA/NAIA singles rankings, 6-1, 6-2.

Nikita Soifer
|
Soifer, from Beer Sheva, Israel, and a
graduate of Hof Hasharon High School, was 3-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles
to help the Gold Rush win 2-of-3 duals. He clinched Xavier's 4-3
victory against Prairie View on Saturday with a 6-3, 6-0 victory against
Craig Wiltz.
Both XU teams were to play at Louisiana-Lafayette
today. New NAIA top-25 coaches polls for men and women were to be announced
by late this afternoon. The next dual at the new XU Tennis Center will start
at 2 p.m. Saturday against McNeese State's women.

The Xavier Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets compete in Division I of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) as a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC).
Xavier fields men's teams in basketball, cross country, tennis and track and field and women's teams in basketball, cross country, tennis, track and field and volleyball.
