ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

February 14, 2013
NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana
and Tad Gormley Stadium will play host to the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championships on April 13 —
one of nine meets on XU's 2013 outdoor track and field schedule for men and women.
Coach Joseph Moses announced the schedule Thursday. This
will be the fourth season in XU's most recent revival of the sport.
Xavier will compete with Dillard, Edward Waters, Fisk, Philander
Smith, SUNO and Tougaloo in the GCAC meet. Xavier's women won the team
championship in 2011.
The Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets will compete in six
Louisiana meets, including the first four on the schedule. They'll open the season March 2 at Gormley in the Tulane Team Challenge.
NCAA Division I members will play host to five additional meets on the schedule,
including the LSU Relays March 22-23 and the LSU Alumni Gold on April 20.
Starting times are not yet available for all meets. The LSU
Relays will begin at 4 p.m. the first day and 10 a.m. the second day. The Mississippi
College Twilight on April 5 will begin field events at 1 p.m. and track events at 4 p.m.
LSU Alumni Gold will start at 9 a.m.
In addition to aiming for GCAC titles, the Nuggets and
Rush will try to meet qualifying standards for the NAIA National Championships
on May 23-25 at Marion, Ind. XU's Devinn Rolland qualified for nationals in
three events last season as a freshman; she earned All-America honors by finishing
sixth in the long jump, and she reached the semifinals in the 100- and 200-meter
dashes. Rolland, a 4.0 student through three XU semesters, was the 2012 GCAC
champion in all three events.
Xavier's other returning 2012 GCAC champions are
Kwame Jackson in the men's 5,000, Zahri Jackson (Kwame's sister)
in the women's 800 and Catherine Fakler in the women's 1,500. All three are
sophomores.
