Gold Nuggets win in 4, earn season sweep of Belhaven

     NEW ORLEANS — Taylor Reuther had 19 kills Monday to lead Xavier University of Louisiana in a 25-21, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20 women's volleyball victory against Belhaven at The Barn.
     The Gold Nuggets (16-6) won their third in a row and snapped the six-match win streak of the Blazers (25-7). Xavier earned its first season sweep of Belhaven; the Nuggets won in four sets Sept. 8 in the championship match of the Belhaven Tournament.
     Moira Kirk had 11 kills, Chinedu Echebelem 10 and Claudia Haywood eight for Xavier. Kirk had five blocks, three in the final set. Reuther reached double-figure kills for the fifth consecutive match.
     Taylor Williams had 13 kills, and Morgan Hofacker and Natalie Davis had eight apiece for Belhaven. Hofacker had 14 digs, and Gabriella Zorzoli had 17.
     Xavier had a 58-41 advantage in kills. It was the fourth time in the past five matches that the Nuggets had 55 or more.
     Xavier will travel to Mobile for a 7:30 p.m. match Tuesday, then play city and Gulf Coast Athletic Conference rival SUNO at 7 p.m. Thursday at The Barn. It will be the last home match of the season for the Gold Nuggets, who can clinch their second consecutive GCAC regular-season championship with a victory against SUNO.

The Xavier Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets compete in Division I of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) as a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC). Xavier fields men's teams in basketball, cross country, tennis and track and field and women's teams in basketball, cross country, tennis, track and field and volleyball.
