ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Rush picked to win GCAC regular-season championship
October 8, 2012
|
NEW ORLEANS — For the second time in three seasons,
Xavier University of Louisiana is the top choice in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference
men's basketball preseason poll.
The Gold Rush received seven first-place votes and
49 points in a poll of the GCAC's head coaches, who were not allowed to vote
for their own team. Xavier was 23-9 this past year, shared the GCAC regular-season
championship with Tougaloo and was No. 24 in the final NAIA Division I coaches poll.
The Gold Rush qualfied for the Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I National
Championship for the sixth time in eight seasons.
This is the fifth time in six seasons that the
Gold Rush were picked to finish second or higher in the conference.
Senior forwards Anthony Simmons and Denzell
Erves, both All-GCAC this past season, are among seven returning XU lettermen.
Also back is senior guard Wanto Joseph, who joined Simmons and Erves on the
preseason All-GCAC team announced one week ago.
SUNO, the 2012 GCAC Tournament champion, received
the other first-place vote and finished second with 40 points.
Tougaloo was third, and Philander Smith was fourth.
The XU men will open their 75th season at 1 p.m. on Nov. 3
at the new Convocation Academic Center against Morehouse. The facility,
which will seat 3,817 for athletic contests, is expected to be completed
by the end of October. Call (504) 520-7329 for ticket information.
