In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Gold Nuggets defeat Fisk for 9th consecutive road victory
September 27, 2012
Box score
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Taylor Reuther had 14 kills,
six digs and three aces Thursday for Xavier University of Louisiana in a 25-18,
25-10, 25-8 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference women's volleyball victory against
Fisk.
The Gold Nuggets (9-4 overall, 3-0 GCAC) extended their
school-record road winning streak to nine. The victory was their fourth in a
row overall. The Lady Bulldogs (1-10, 0-3) have lost seven in a row.
Reuther hit .500 in 24 attempts and produced kills on
all five of her third-set attacks.
CeCe Williams had seven kills and Chinedu Echebelem
five for Xavier, which hit .354. Darian Harris had 12 digs,
Echebelem seven and Williams six.
Xavier rallied from a 5-2 first-set deficit and took
the lead for good, 10-9, after a Fisk attack error. But the Nuggets did not
pull away until Reuther sandwiched two aces around consecutive Moira Kirk
kills in a six-point run which gave Xavier a 22-14 lead.
Six unforced Fisk errors keyed a 10-0 run which gave
Xavier a 22-5 lead in the second set. The Nuggets built a 17-4 lead in
the third set and closed the match on consecutive Williams kills.
Xavier, which committed 41 errors Monday in a four-set
GCAC victory at SUNO, made 16 against Fisk. "Our goal was to reduce our errors,
and we did," XU coach Christabell Hamilton said. "That's one of the things
I'm proud of. Our players are slowly figuring out that the longer they keep the ball
in play, our opponent will probably commit errors to help us."
Alexandria Rencher, starting at setter for the first
time this season, overcame three ballhandling errors and finished with 26 assists,
five digs, two aces, two blocks and a kill. Reserve setter Jodi Chatters played
part of the third set and recorded four assists and two digs.
"It was a rough start, but Alex pulled through it,"
Hamilton said. "Then Jodi came in and did a good job."
The Nuggets also extended their win streak against
GCAC opponents — 17 in a row, 13 in the regular season. They're unbeaten
against the GCAC since XU hired Hamilton in June 2011.
Xavier will play Philander Smith at 1 p.m. Saturday in
a GCAC match at Little Rock, Ark. The next home match will be Oct. 5 against
Edward Waters at The Barn.
