ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Gold Nuggets' 11 points earn them tie for 34th nationally
|
September 26, 2012
NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana
received 11 points Wednesday in voting for the NAIA Women's Cross Country
Coaches' Top 25 poll. The Gold Nuggets are tied for 34th place, their highest
rank since the 2008 preseason.
Xavier was not ranked a week ago but finished second
to 20th-ranked Embry-Riddle in the ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic at Daytona Beach,
Fla., on Saturday. The Lady Eagles finished 23 points ahead of Xavier in the
12-team event, but had their matchup been scored as a dual meet, ERAU
would've won 25-30.
"Our women stepped up and performed well on a tough
course," XU coach Joseph Moses said. "We had been pointing to the Embry-Riddle
meet as a chance to do well against a ranked team."
The poll is the fourth of the season. British
Columbia is No. 1 for the second consecutive week, followed by three-time
defending champion Cal State San Marcos. Embry-Riddle remained 20th.
The next meet for Xavier's men and women will be the
Mississippi College/Watson Ford Invitational at Clinton, Miss., on Oct. 5.
The women's 6,000-meter race will start at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men's 8K at 5:15.
NOTES: The Gold Nuggets never have reached
the top 25. Their highest rank was 27th on Oct. 4 and Nov. 8, 2002, and Sept.
26, 2003 . . . They received their first votes in the national poll in 2002 . . .
This is the 20th time they've received support . . . The only time they received
more points was in the 2008 preseason (14) . . . In six previous appearances
in September polls, the Gold Nuggets received a combined 12 points . . . Xavier
is 11-1 against NAIA opponents this season.
