Howell defeated in consolation final of Big Easy Classic

Results
NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's
Kourtney Howell lost 7-5, 6-4 Sunday to Kristina Martic of the University of
New Orleans in the women's singles first flight consolation final of the Big Easy Tennis Classic
at UNO.
Howell reached the championship round after rallying for a 4-6,
7-6 (7-1), 6-0 victory against Loyola's Meghan DeBaroncelli in the semifinals.
The Gold Nuggets' Jordyn Goody and Olivia West lost 8-0 to Troy's Anja Cosovic
and Olivia Durden in the women's doubles consolation semifinals.
XU's men were involved in no matches on the final day
of the tournament. It was Xavier's first event of the 2012-13 season.
Both XU teams will compete next in the USTA / ITA NAIA South Regional
at Gainesville, Ga. That three-day tournament will begin Friday.

The Xavier Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets compete in Division I of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) as a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC).
Xavier fields men's teams in basketball, cross country, tennis and track and field and women's teams in basketball, cross country, tennis, track and field and volleyball.
