Rush, Nuggets open season at UNO's Big Easy Classic

2012-13 schedules:  Men    Women

     NEW ORLEANS — Xavier Univerity of Louisiana will begin the fall portion of its 2012-13 men's and women's tennis schedules Friday in the Big Easy Classic at the University of New Orleans.
     The three-day event will be played at UNO's University Tennis Center. In addition to Xavier and the host school, participating teams will be the men of South Alabama and Tulane, the women of McNeese State, Troy and

Southern Illinois and the men and women of Alcorn State, Loyola and Nicholls State.
     There will be three flights of singles, one flight of doubles and a consolation bracket for first-round losers.
     The Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets also will compete Sept. 28-30 in the USTA / ITA NAIA South Regional in Gainesville, Ga. Brenau University will be the host. Alan Green, in his 10th season as coach of XU's men and women, said he plans to add one more fall event to the schedule.
     Xavier will announce its schedule of spring-semester dual matches near the end of 2012 or in early 2013. The Gold Rush were ranked seventh and the Gold Nuggets 19th in the 2012 NAIA postseason coaches poll.


Gulf Coast Athletic Conference

National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics
The Xavier Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets compete in Division I of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) as a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC). Xavier fields men's teams in basketball, cross country, tennis and track and field and women's teams in basketball, cross country, tennis, track and field and volleyball.
