ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

NEW ORLEANS — David Holobowicz, born in Ethiopia
but living in Montgomery, Texas, is Xavier University of Louisiana's first men's
cross country signee for the 2012 season.
Holobowicz (pronounced holla-bob-itch) was a four-time team MVP for Montgomery
High School and will graduate Saturday. He had the third-fastest 4,000-meter time —
12 minutes, 47.7 seconds — during the 2010
U.S. prep cross country season, according to the website
MileSplit.us.
Holobowicz qualified four times for the regional meet and twice for
the state meet. As a junior he was second-team all district and finished
41st in the state in Class 4A.
In track and field, Holobowicz was a
2011 regional qualifier in the 3,200 outdoors. His best times include 16:03
for 5,000 meters in cross country and 4:41.61 in the 1,600 and 10:00.78 in
the 3,200 in track.

Holobowicz moved from Ethiopia to New Hampshire
in 2000 when he was adopted by Americans. His new family, which has
grown to 13 children, moved to Texas in 2004. Montgomery is a suburb about 55
miles north of Houston.
"I really like the school and the people in the cross
country program," said Holobowicz, who will major in physics at Xavier. "Coach
(Joseph) Moses is passionate about running and has a good sense of humor."
Xavier's men won the past six Gulf Coast
Athletic Conference team championships and qualified for three of the past four
NAIA National Championships. The Gold Rush's 41 victories in 2011 were
a school record. The XU men return five All-GCAC runners from this past season,
including 2011 champion Kwame Jackson and 2010 champion Matt Pieri.
