ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana
earned its first women's tennis victory of the season, winning every set
Tuesday in a 9-0 victory against Tennessee Wesleyan at City Park.
The XU men defeated No. 21 Tennessee Wesleyan 8-1 for their
fourth consecutive victory against a ranked NAIA opponent.
The Gold Nuggets (1-9) had lost every doubles match
of the spring semester before Ashley McGill and Jordyn Goody broke through at
the No. 3 flight with an 8-3 victory against Britten Friedrich and Spencer
Creekmore. Kourtney Howell and Nicole DeLoach followed with an 8-2 decision
against Laura Spellacy and Kristin Camp at No. 2, then Amber Brown and Amanda
Materre gave the Nuggets a 3-0 lead in the dual with an 8-5 victory against
Beatriz Signori and Zola Enhkbat.
McGill clinched the dual with a 6-0, 6-0 victory
against Creekmore at No. 6 singles. Howell and Goody also won in singles
without dropping a game, and DeLoach lost one game.
"Our ladies played well and played with confidence,"
XU coach Alan Green said. "Hopefully we can carry that momentum to our
next match."
The Gold Rush (6-1), still ninth in the NAIA coaches
poll announced Tuesday, swept the doubles and won 5-of-6
singles matches. Loic Didavi clinched at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against
Tanner Stancil. Viktor Svoboda at No. 3 and Sean Richardson at No. 6 both
extended their singles streaks to five victories.
Didavi and Zach Taylor, the NAIA's third-ranked
doubles team, improved their win streak to six with an 8-5 victory against
David Escobosa and Bartos Micher.
The six-dual win streak of the XU men is their longest
since winning seven straight in 2010.
Both Tennessee Wesleyan teams are 0-3.
Both XU teams will play Belhaven at Jackson, Miss.,
at 1 p.m. Thursday — that's a makeup of a Feb. 18 rained-out XU home
match — then compete the following day in the AUM Invitational at Montgomery, Ala.
The Gold Rush will play Pikeville, and the Gold Nuggets will play NAIA No. 18 Martin
Methodist in 3:30 p.m. duals Friday.
