ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

January 28, 2012

NEW ORLEANS — Joe Young and Takuma Ohasi scored
singles and doubles victories Saturday to help Tulane earn a 5-0 men's
tennis victory against Xavier University of Louisiana at Goldring Tennis Center.
It was first dual match of 2012 for the Gold Rush, an NAIA.
member. NCAA Division I Tulane is 2-2.
Young and Idan Mark clinched the doubles point for
the Green Wave with an 8-6 victory against Viktor Svoboda and Corey Huggins
at the No. 1 flight. Ohashi and Adam Bernstein defeated Amir Rahbar and
Loic Didavi 8-5 at No. 3. In singles Ohashi beat Sean Richardson 6-2, 6-4
at No. 6, and the dual ended after Young's 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (10-3) against
Svoboda at No. 3.
Although the XU men failed to score a point, they
won at No. 2 doubles when Richardson and Steffen Giles-Osborn topped
Shaye Wali and Rodrigo Rappaccioli 9-7. In 2011, when the schools met
for the first time, Wali and Rappaccioli beat Richardson and Giles-Osborn 8-4.
The unfinished singles of matches of Didavi at No. 1 and Giles-Osborn
at No. 4 were close.
"This dual was a bit closer than the score indicated," XU
coach Alan Green said. "We lost, but I'm really proud of the way all the guys fought. We walk
out of here today with our heads up and congratulate Tulane. They are a good team
from top to bottom.
"They had a good crowd out today, and the atmosphere was awesome.
We had a lot of Xavier fans out as well, so today's match felt like nationals.
I hope we can make it there in May."
