Unbeaten Langston defeats Dillard in Xavier Classic

NEW ORLEANS — Ayanna Jackson scored 12 points
Friday to lead NAIA No. 21 Langston in a 55-42 women's basketball victory against
Dillard at the Xavier Classic.
The Lady Lions (7-0) went 2-0 in this event for the
fourth time in six seasons. They won by double digits for the third straight time
and fifth time in six games.
Jackson — a senior guard in her first year at Langston
after transferring from Oklahoma Christian — collected all her points from 3-point range.
She made three treys in the second half, with the final one giving Langston
its biggest lead, 51-31 at 8:34. Jackson has made at least two 3-pointers
in every game this season.
Jackson's first 3-pointer concluded an 11-2 run which increased Langston's
lead from 16-11 to 27-13 with 2:56 remaining. Langston led 29-18 at halftime
and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half.
Langston outshot Dillard 37.3 to 21.7 percent
from the floor and outrebounded the Lady Bleu Devils 49-38. The Lady Lions won for the 32nd time in 35 games since
losing to Xavier on the opening day of the 2010 Xavier Classic,
Tayla Vaughn scored 10 points for the Lady Lions, and Vicoria
Felix grabbed a season-best nine rebounds.
Jazzmin Smith scored 12 points and Lauren Daniel 10
for Dillard (1-3), which never led. Jasmine Bradley grabbed a career-high-tying 13 rebounds.
