Rivers runs wild as Tuskegee takes care of Texas College

NEW ORLEANS — Sophomore guard Alondra Rivers scored
22 points Friday to lead Tuskegee to a wire-to-wire 66-52 women's basketball
victory against Texas College in the Xavier Classic.
Rivers, who did not score Thursday in a victory against
Mobile, was 10-of-12 from the floor and made a pair of 3-pointers in 21 minutes
for Tuskegee (4-1). Rivers was one of five Tigerettes to score during a 12-3 run
in the opening 5:06.
NCAA Division II Tuskegee led 33-18 at halftime and
by 21 points three times in the second half — the last on Natasha Williams'
3-pointer to make it 50-29 with 9:43 remaining.
Alannah Vincent scored 11 points for Tuskegee, and Nnenna
Eze grabbed 10 rebounds.
Shirley McGowen had 10 points and a season-best 14 rebounds
for Texas College (0-6) of the NAIA. McGowen grabbed 10 second-half rebounds.
Tuskegee outshot the Lady Steers 44.1 to 22 percent from
the floor and outrebounded them 44-36. Texas College made a season best 27-of-34
free throws and was 19-of-23 in the second half.
The teams combined for 59 turnovers. Texas
College committed 30 and finished with 71 in its two games at this event.
