Gold Nuggets suffer third straight loss, this time at LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana
lost 7-0 Sunday to LSU in the first-ever women's tennis meeting between the two schools.
Both teams are 2-5. Xavier has lost three in a row,
all to NCAA Division I opponents. Four of the Gold Nuggets' losses this season
are to D-Is.
Xavier won just six games in seven completed matches
and defaulted the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches. The closest match was at No. 3
singles, where Alexus Coats defeated Melissa DeLoach 6-3, 6-1. Coats was
one of three LSU freshmen to earn singles victories.
LSU's best player, Whitney Wolf, sat out the dual.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranks Wolf 60th in singles and 39th in doubles nationally.
Xavier's women and men will play Vanguard at
2 p.m. PST Friday — 4 p.m. New Orleans time — at Costa Mesa, Calif.,
in matchups of ranked NAIA teams.
