ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

February 10, 2011
NEW ORLEANS — Siblings Zahri and Kwame Jackson
of Kingwood, Texas, and Kingwood Park High School have signed cross country scholarships with Xavier
University of Louisiana.
Zahri Jackson is graduating a year early to attend
Xavier. Milesplit.us ranked her fourth among female harriers for two miles in the Class of 2012.
She finished 16th in the Class 4A state meet in November and helped her team
place second. The previous two years she placed in the top 10 — third
in 2009 — and led Kingwood Park to state championships both times.
Zahri was the Region III-4A individual champion in 2009
and 2010. Her best cross country times of 11 minutes, 1 second for two miles and 18:45 for 5,000 meters are
significantly faster than Xavier's female school records of 13:13 and 19:26.
Older brother Kwame, like his sister, was a District 19-4A
|
individual champion in 2009. He competed in the 4A state meet each of the last three
seasons, finishing 52nd as a senior and helping Kingwood Park place seventh in
the team standings. His best cross country time
for 5,000 meters, 16:18, is 33 seconds faster than the Xavier men's record.
Other bests include 14:22.05 for 4,000 meters, 16:00.84 for three miles
and, in outdoor track, 4:18.29 for 1,500 meters.
"I am very fortunate to have these two talented siblings coming to Xavier,"
XU Coach Joseph Moses said. "The goal of this program is to recruit exceptional
student-athletes, and this signing class is reflective of that."
Kingwood is a suburb northeast of Houston.
Zahri is the first female to sign with Xavier for the
2011 season. Xavier's other male recruit is Jamaal Williams of Mesquite, Texas, whose
signing was announced last week.
