ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

NEW ORLEANS — Amanda Materre, a TennisRecruiting.net
three-star recruit from Richmond, Texas, signed a women's tennis scholarship Wednesday
with Xavier University of Louisiana.
TennisRecruiting.net ranks Materre 38th in Texas and
44th in the Gulf States region.
Materre is a 5-foot-8 right-hander and a senior
at Westside High School in Houston. As a junior she became the first female
from Westside, which opened in 2000, to qualify for the state tournament. She reached
the Class 5A quarterfinals.
In 2004 Materre won the gold medal in age-12 singles
at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation's Games of Texas. At age 9 she won a tournament in the age-14 division.
"Amanda has played a lot of top-level competition in junior
tennis," XU Coach Alan Green said. "Because of that she will not be in awe of playing
college tennis. I'm excited
|
to get her here at Xavier. I think she'll be an impact
player for us next season."
Materre's non-tennis extracurriculars include the Westside a capella choir,
a camp counselor for the Jewish Community Service and a volunteer with
Best Buddies International. She will be a psychology/pre-medicine and pre-pharmacy major
at Xavier.
The Gold Nuggets are ranked 22nd in the NAIA and have been
in every NAIA top 25 since February 2004.
