ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

January 31, 2011
NEW ORLEANS — In a program where
many share the work, it makes sense that Brandi Young is the sixth this
season from Xavier University of Louisiana to be chosen Gulf Coast Athletic
Conference Player of the Week in women's basketball.
Young, a 5-foot-6 junior guard from Memphis, Tenn.,
and a graduate of East High School, averaged 13.5 points, two rebounds, two assists, 1.5 steals and shot
53 percent from the floor, 50 percent from 3-point range and 80 percent from the line
during the Gold Nuggets' 2-0 week. Saturday she scored 19 points — 6-of-8 from the floor,
3-of-3 on 3-pointers and 4-of-5 free throws — in a 64-47 win at SUNO that handed the Lady Knights
|
their first loss of the season. Five days earlier
she made the go-ahead 3-pointer with 59 seconds remaining as Xavier rallied from 15 down in the second half for a 48-47 home victory
against Mobile.
The other Gold Nuggets to win the award this season are
Keldra Hall (twice), Jasmine Grant, Carmen Holcombe, Jazmoné Kelly and Christina Warren.
Young, the only Gold Nugget to start every game this
season, ranks fourth on the team with 6.8 points per game and second with 2.7 assists.
She's also a nominee for Heritage Sports Radio Network's HBCU Division II Player
of the Week. Fans can visit www.hsrn.com and
vote for Young before 10 a.m. CST Wednesday. Xavier's Devin Andrew is a men's
nominee this week too.
Xavier, 19-4 and ranked 14th in NAIA Division I,
will play Belhaven (17-5) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Barn. The men's game
between Xavier and Belhaven will follow at 7:30.
