In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Xavier opens season this week with Division I opponents
January 25, 2011
NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of
Louisiana, one of the NAIA's best tennis programs in recent years,
will play five men's opponents and eight women's opponents from NCAA
Division I in 2011.
Alan Green, in his eighth season as coach of the
Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets, announced Tuesday the spring portion of the schedules.
XU's men will open their season at 3 p.m. Friday
with a dual match against D-I member Kennesaw State at City Park Tennis Center. At noon Saturday
the XU women will play D-I member and city rival Tulane at the Green Wave's
Goldring Stadium.
Both the Rush and Nuggets will play Prairie View A&M
and Nicholls State on the road in February. The XU men also will visit Tennessee
State and play host to Radford, and the XU women will play host to
Southeastern Louisiana, Southern, Rutgers, New Orleans and South Alabama.
Xavier likely will face ranked NAIA opponents
in the Oklahoma Christian Invitational in late February and the Auburn Montgomery
Invitational in mid-March. Matchups for those events will be announced later.
"These schedules will be plenty competitive," Green said.
"Now it's up to our players to step up and compete at a high level."
That hasn't been a problem at Xavier. During Green's tenure
his teams recorded 18 wins against men's opponents and 23 against women's teams
from NCAA Division I. The Gold Rush have been ranked in the last five final
NAIA coaches polls (16th in 2010) and women were ranked in the last six polls
(19th in 2010). His teams are a combined 7-0 in the first round at the NAIA
National Championship.
Reorganization of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference in 2010
— six members departed, two joined — leaves the GCAC with only
three tennis-playing members for 2011: Xavier, Fisk and Tougaloo. Xavier will
play those schools one time apiece at home, but there will be no GCAC championship
awarded this season. Instead Xavier will try to automatically qualify for the
NAIA National Championship in a regional qualifying tournament featuring
teams from other non-qualifying conferences and independent Lambuth.
Xavier will use two sites for home matches this
season: the University of New Orleans Tennis Center and City Park Tennis Center.
