In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's
Jazmoné Kelly, who had one of the best games of her career Saturday in a 25-point
victory against Loyola, was selected Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week
in women's basketball for Jan. 10-16.
Kelly, a 5-foot-9 junior guard/forward from Cincinnati
and a graduate of that city's Ursuline Academy, averaged 13.5 points, 4.5 assists,
2.5 rebounds and two steals and shot 55 percent from the floor
in a pair of double-digit home victories. She scored a season-high 17 points and had a career-best seven assists in
the Gold Nuggets' 77-52 victory against Loyola. Kelly produced
nine points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists in a 56-41
victory against William Carey five days earlier.
Kelly is averaging 7.3 points, four rebounds,
two assists and 1.9 steals in 20 games
|
with 13 starts this season. During the past
nine games she leads Xavier in scoring with 10.4 points per
game.
"We need Jazmoné Kelly to continue to step up
and play at a high level for us," Xavier Coach Bo Browder said. "She's
been in our program awhile, so we demand and expect more from our veterans."
Kelly is the fifth Gold Nugget to win the award this
season, joining Keldra Hall (twice), Jasmine Grant, Carmen Holcombe and Christina
Warren.
Xavier, 16-4 and ranked 16th in NAIA Division I,
will play Tougaloo at 5 p.m. Saturday at The Barn in the Gulf Coast Athletic
Conference opener for both teams.
