NEW ORLEANS — Season scoring highs by Jamaan Kenner and Carmen Holcombe helped Xavier University of Louisiana sweep the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week basketball awards for Dec. 6-12.
Kenner, a 6-foot-4 junior guard from LaPlace, La., and a graduate of East St. John High School, shared team honors with 13 points in 17 minutes off the bench of an 85-66 victory at city rival Loyola. Holcombe, a 5-11 freshman forward from Plano, Texas, and a graduate of Plano West High School, did not start but led Xavier in scoring with 12 points — six in each half — of a 59-48 home victory

against then-NAIA No. 9 Lee. It was Holcombe's first double-figure scoring game as a collegian.
It's the second straight week that a Gold Rush player won a GCAC award and the fourth straight week that a Gold Nuggets player did it.
The next XU men's game will start at 4 p.m. Saturday at William Carey. The next XU women's game will start at 7 p.m. EST Thursday at Webber International. The Gold Rush are 10-0 and ranked ninth in NAIA Division I, and the Gold Nuggets are 10-2 and ranked 15th.
