ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

NEW ORLEANS — Season scoring highs by Jamaan Kenner
and Carmen Holcombe helped Xavier University of Louisiana
sweep the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week
basketball awards for Dec. 6-12.
Kenner, a 6-foot-4 junior guard from LaPlace,
La., and a graduate of East St. John High School, shared team honors with
13 points in 17½ minutes off the bench of an 85-66 victory at city rival Loyola.
Holcombe, a 5-11 freshman forward from Plano, Texas, and a graduate of Plano West
High School, did not start but led Xavier in scoring with 12 points —
six in each half — of a 59-48 home victory
|
against then-NAIA No. 9 Lee.
It was Holcombe's first double-figure scoring game as a collegian.
It's the second straight week that a Gold Rush
player won a GCAC award and the fourth straight week that a Gold Nuggets player did it.
The next XU men's game will start at 4 p.m. Saturday
at William Carey. The next XU women's game will start at 7 p.m. EST Thursday
at Webber International. The Gold Rush are 10-0 and ranked ninth in NAIA Division I,
and the Gold Nuggets are 10-2 and ranked 15th.
