Gray, Madden help Langston rally past Dillard

NEW ORLEANS — Seniors Ashlea Gray and Stephanie
Madden combined for 32 second-half points Friday to help NAIA No. 15 Langston
rally for a 70-64 women's basketball victory against Dillard in the Xavier
Classic.
Gray finished with a career-high 28 points and had
seven rebounds and five steals. Madden had 17 points and 15 rebounds for her
sixth double-double of the season and her second in as many days.
Langston (5-3) trailed 11-6 after nine minutes and
28-27 at halftime before taking the lead for good on Gray's 3-pointer with
17:59 remaining. Gray's fifth and final 3-pointer at 7:11 gave the Lady Lions
their largest lead, 59-46.
Ariel Mitchell and Jazzmin Smith scored 15 points
apiece for Dillard (5-6), with Mitchell getting 11 in the first half without
missing a shot. The Lady Bleu Devils outshot Langston 45 to 42 percent from
the floor but made 8-of-19 free throws in the second half after going 6-of-6
in the first half.Langston made 23-of-32 free throws.
Langston was 1-1 in this event, and Dillard was 0-2.
Grambling defeated NAIA No. 22 Xavier University of
Louisiana 47-43 in Friday's final game.
