ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Young scores late to keep Gold Nuggets unbeaten
November 13, 2010
Box score
BATESVILLE, Ark. — Brandi Young's 3-point play
with three seconds remaining lifted NAIA No. 22 Xavier University of Louisiana
to a 60-59 women's basketball victory over Lyon.
It was the 25th victory in 26 games for the Gold Nuggets
(4-0) and their third on the road in six days.
Debbie Onukwube's basket gave Lyon a 59-57 lead with
nine seconds remaining, then Young drove the length of the court and was fouled
by K.K. Hodges as she scored on a 5-footer. Young made the free throw to break the tie.
"We didn't call timeout (after Onukwube's basket)," Xavier
Coach Bo Browder said. "I told Brandi to get (the ball) and attack."
Jasmine Grant scored 17 points and Paige Gauthier 13,
both season bests, for Xavier. Hodges had 19 points and Jordin Coleman 12
for Lyon (2-2), which sought its second straight home victory against a ranked opponent.
Xavier, which trailed by 11 points late in the first half
and 34-26 at the break, didn't take its first lead until Grant's steal and basket
made it 54-53 with 4:59 remaining.
Xavier shot a season-best 50 percent from the floor.
It was the first time since the 2008-09 season that Xavier scored the winning points
on its final possession.
"It was a hard-fought road win," Browder said. "Lyon played
well and played hard for 40 minutes. They didn't give in."
The Gold Nuggets' next game will start at 6 p.m. Friday
against Paul Quinn at The Barn.
