XU's Grant, Kelly, Warren chosen preseason All-GCAC

     NEW ORLEANS — Jasmine Grant, Jazmoné Kelly and Christina Warren are Xavier University of Louisiana's representatives on the 2010-11 preseason All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference women's basketball team announced Monday.
     Xavier, the defending GCAC champion and No. 22 in the preseason NAIA Division I poll, opened its season Friday with a 55-47 home victory against Florida Memorial.
     Grant is a 5-foot-8 junior guard from Shreveport, La., and a graduate of Southwood High School. She was All-GCAC and averaged nine points last season, had 76 steals and led the Gold Nuggets in 3-pointers made with 59.
     Kelly, a 5-9 junior guard/forward from Cincinnati and a graduate of Ursuline Academy, averaged 7.6 points and 4.7 rebounds.
     Warren, a 5-9 senior forward/guard from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., averaged 6.1 points and made a team-leading 82.8 percent of her free throws. Warren is a graduate of Los Osos High School and Chaffey College.
     Other 2009-10 All-GCAC players on the preseason team are Tougaloo's Damara Bolton and Victoria Jones and Dillard's Ariel Mitchell.
     Xavier's next game will start at 5:30 p.m. next Monday (Nov. 8) at LSU-Shreveport. The next home game will tip off at 6 p.m. on Nov. 19 against Paul Quinn.

The Xavier Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets compete in Division I of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) as a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC). Xavier fields men's teams in basketball, cross country and tennis and women's teams in basketball, cross country, tennis and volleyball.
