Lady Rams sweep Nuggets, snap XU's winning streak
October 28, 2010

NEW ORLEANS — Kelly Sherling had 17 kills, and Charlotte Stutts served a career-best five aces Thursday to lead Mobile to a 25-17, 25-14, 25-20 women's volleyball victory over Xavier University of Louisiana.
The victory was the third in a row for the Lady Rams (15-12), who snapped the school-record three-match win streak of the Gold Nuggets (8-23).
Sierra Lyons had six kills, and Iva Bobkova served three aces for Xavier.
Sherling reached double figures in kills for the 16th time this season, and she had eight kills and no errors in 11 second-set attempts.
Stutts served three aces in Mobile's 11-1 run to open the match. Xavier closed the margin to 18-16, but aces from Melody Tenney and Stutts helped Mobile clinch the set.
Two Haley Wiggins aces sparked a 5-0 Mobile third-set run which broke a tie at 8 and put the Lady Rams ahead to stay. Katie Dowd ended the match with her seventh kill.
Mobile finished with a .242 hitting percentage — .536 in the second set — and had a 15-5 advantage in aces.
Xavier will play its final regular-season match at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 against Loyola at The Barn, then compete in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament at city rival Dillard on Nov. 12-13. Mobile will return to New Orleans on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match at Loyola.
