ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

NAIA coaches polls: Gold Rush 20th, Gold Nuggets 22nd
October 25, 2010
NEW ORLEANS — Both Xavier University of Louisiana
teams are in the top 25 of the NAIA Division I Basketball Coaches' Top 25
Preseason Polls announced Monday. Xavier's men are 20th, and the women are 22nd.
The Gold Rush, 18-13 last season, received 118 points
and earned their first preseason top-25 berth since a No. 10 ranking in 2007-08.
Xavier returns three starters, including All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference guard
Michael Harvey, and will open the season at 4 p.m. Saturday against Webber International at The Barn.
The Gold Nuggets, 28-6 and winner of the GCAC regular-season
and tournament championships, collected 120 points to earn their second preseason
top-25 berth in three years and their sixth in nine seasons. All-GCAC guard Jasmine
Grant and three starters are among the returnees for the Nuggets, who will tip off
their season at 7 p.m. Friday against Florida Memorial at The Barn.
It's the first top-25 appearance for XU's men since a
No. 13 ranking on Feb. 20, 2008. The Gold Nuggets were 20th in the final poll of
2009-10 and ranked as high as 19th last season.
Xavier is one of 12 schools with men's and women's teams
in the preseason top 25. The first regular-season polls will be announced Dec. 6.
