Xavier defeats Tougaloo in record-setting match
October 22, 2010
TOUGALOO, Miss. — Xavier University of Louisiana
set four school records Friday in its 25-4, 25-8, 25-10 Gulf Coast Athletic
Conference women's volleyball victory against Tougaloo.
The Gold Nuggets (7-22 overall, 2-3 GCAC) set XU
records for fewest points allowed in a set and match. They also set school
records with their third victory of the season and second in a row on an opponent's floor.
It was the first GCAC road victory for Xavier, which
was 0-10 in such matches — 0-2 this season — before Friday. Xavier is
3-3 and has won two straight since a school-record 16-match losing streak.
"We took care of our business and got back on the road,"
Xavier Coach Al'lisa Hale said.
Tougaloo, in its first season of intercollegiate volleyball,
is 0-9 and 0-4. Xavier is in its third season and first since 2004.
The Gold Nuggets will play their final GCAC match at
6 p.m. Saturday at The Barn against city rival Dillard. "The key to beating Dillard
will be consistency," said Hale, whose team lost 25-18, 25-15, 25-18 at Dillard
on Sept. 30.
