Badgers breeze past Nuggets in Loyola tourney opener

NEW ORLEANS — Spring Hill's Abbey Roam
had 12 kills and three aces Friday to lead the Badgers to a 25-15, 25-12, 25-13
women's volleyball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana in
the opening match of the Hampton Inn Wolfpack Classic at The Den.
The victory was the sixth in a row for
Spring Hill (11-2). Xavier (4-11) has lost eight straight.
Sha Sha Buchanan and Yiting Cao added seven kills
apiece for the Badgers, who had a 9-1 advantage in aces and
whose winning streak is their longest since 2007.
Allison Dawson and Sierra Lyons had seven kills
apiece for Xavier.
The loss was the eighth in a row for Xavier,
and it was the first time in 74 matches that the Nuggets were swept
by double digits in each set.
Xavier will play two more matches in the
Wolfpack Classic on Saturday — at 9 a.m. against St. Thomas (Texas)
and at 1 p.m. against Loyola. Spring Hill will visit The Barn for a
7 p.m. match against Xavier on Wednesday.
