In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

XU's Pieri wins GCAC award for third time this season
September 29, 2010
NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Matt Pieri
is the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Runner of the Week in men's cross country
for the third time this season.
Pieri, a sophomore from New Orleans and a graduate of
Brother Martin High School, ran 8,000 meters in 29 minutes, 11.81 seconds Saturday
to finish 32nd out of 81 runners in the LSU Invitational at Baton Rouge, La.
His time was one of Xavier's four fastest in its last six LSU Invitational
appearances dating to 2002. Pieri competed in a field in which nine of the 10
scoring teams were from NCAA Division I. Xavier is an NAIA member.
Pieri is the second Gold Rush harrier to win the
GCAC award three or more times in a season since its establishment in 2008.
Mark Dotson won five times in 2009. Xavier has won all four GCAC men's Runner
of the Week awards this season — Ray Walston earned the other — and
11 of 13 since the start of the 2009 season.
NOTES: Xavier Coach Joseph Moses announced
that Xavier opted out of the ASICS McNeese Cowboy Stampede on Oct. 9 and
will compete instead in the Mississippi College/Watson Ford Invitational
at Clinton, Miss., on Oct. 8. The women's 6,000-meter race will start at 4:30 p.m.,
followed by the men's 8,000-meter race at 5:15 p.m.
