Gold Nuggets defeat Faulkner State in exhibition

NEW ORLEANS — Sierra Lyons had 15 kills, and
Erin Vincent had nine kills and seven digs Wednesday to lead Xavier University
of Louisiana to a 25-16, 25-20, 16-25, 25-16 women's volleyball exhibition victory
against Faulkner State Community College at The Barn.
Celeste Poe had 16 digs, Patrice Hightower 13 and
Iva Bobkova 12 for the Gold Nuggets. Kia Kaufman served three aces,
and Allison Dawson had five blocks.
Julia Bolton led Faulkner State (3-2) with seven kills,
and Kahlie Tomplait had 16 digs.
Xavier scored 14 of the first 18 points in the first set.
A Faulkner State service error, one of six by the Lady Sun Chiefs in the
second set, put Xavier ahead to stay 15-14.
"I was a little concerned about how we would
play after opening weekend," said Xavier Coach Al'lisa Hale, whose team
on Saturday lost to Belhaven and defeated Alabama State. "But we stepped
it up tonight and played better."
Xavier's next match will start at 2 p.m. Saturday at
Judson (Ala.) — the Nuggets' first road match of the season.
