Six additional newcomers will run for Xavier in 2010
August 11, 2010

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana announced Wednesday six more cross country newcomers for the 2010-11 academic year.
The men's recruits are Charles Shaw of Birmingham, Ala., and Woodlawn High School and Ryan Thompson of Shreveport, La., and Captain Shreve High School. The women's signees are Sarah Guillory of Crosby, Texas, and Crosby High School, Janée Hayes of Victoria, Texas, and the Piney Woods (Miss.) School and Angelica Robertson of Gonzales, La., and Baton Rouge's Christian Life Academy.
Sixth-year Coach Joseph Moses also announced that Christina Warren, a senior on Xavier's women's basketball team, also will run cross country this year. Warren, from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and a graduate of Los Osos High School and Chaffey College, averaged 6.1 points and 2.9 rebounds for the Gold Nuggets last season.
Shaw is a 35-year-old ex-Marine who was accepted into XU's College of Pharmacy in May. This is his first time to compete collegiately, but he has trained regularly at longer distances since leaving high school.
Thompson ran 800 meters in a career-best 2 minutes, 2.85 seconds in April at the Region I-5A outdoor track meet. His best time for 3,200 meters in outdoor track is 10:44.97. He helped Captain Shreve's Gators win District 1-5A outdoor track championships in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and the Region I-5A title this year.
Guillory ran the 400 in a career-best 58.15 at this year's Region 3-4A meet, where she placed fourth.
Hayes placed sixth in the 400 in Class 2A in the Mississippi state outdoor meet this year and was a member of two relay teams (4 x 200, 4 x 400) which won district championships. Hayes also led her graduating class with 450 community service hours her senior year for AmeriCorps.
Robertson competed in the 400 and 800 as a junior at East Ascension High School before transferring to Christian Life for her senior year.
Xavier, winner of the past four Gulf Coast Athletic Conference men's and women's team championships, will begin the season in early September.
