The dual was completed Wednesday morning after being suspended Tuesday because of rain.
The Gold Rush (13-13), ranked 16th, won at the national tournament for the second consecutive season. Xavier will play top-ranked and defending champion Fresno Pacific in the second round at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Fresno Pacific (18-1) had a first-round bye.

Knowles won in singles for the first time since March 20. He missed nine consecutive duals because of a knee injury but returned May 1 to score in doubles in Xavier's 5-1 victory over William Carey in the championship match of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.
Vaval and Steffen Giles-Osborn teamed for an 8-5 victory over Gaby and Santos at No. 1 doubles, and Vaval defeated Guilherme Cervezao 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
Eric Chastain won in doubles and singles for Tennessee Wesleyan (11-5), ranked 17th and competing at nationals for the first time. Chastain and Stancil fought off a match point in the tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles to beat Knowles and Sean Richardson 9-8 (9-7).
