ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Opata wins GCAC award for fourth time in two years
April 12, 2010
NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's
Anastesia Opata is the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week in women's
tennis for April 5-11.
It's the first time this season that Opata — a
senior from Lawrenceville, Ga., and a graduate of Central Gwinnett High School
— has won the award and her fourth time in two years.
Although Xavier lost 5-2 Saturday at Southern University,
Opata was unbeaten at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles. She teamed with Angelina
Callis for an 8-7 (8-4) victory over Megan Wiltz and Kathryn Curtis, then rallied
to defeat Wiltz 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5). Opata is 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles
in her career against Southern.
Opata is the third Gold Nugget to win the GCAC award
this year. Callis and Colleen McArthur also did it.
Sports information directors of GCAC members nominate
and select the players of the week.
Xavier's women and men will play NCAA Division I
opponent Alcorn State at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the University of New Orleans
Tennis Center.
