Xavier's Powell selected to All-Louisiana second team

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's
Brittany Powell, no stranger to postseason honors, picked up another
late Friday when she was named to the All-Louisiana collegiate women's basketball
second team.
Powell, a 6-foot senior forward/center from Milwaukee
and a graduate of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, is Xavier's first
All-Louisiana second-team selection in women's basketball since Cassee Davis
in 1997-98. Powell was honorable mention a year ago.
Powell led the Gold Nuggets with 14.7 points, 5.9 rebounds
and 1.3 blocked shots per game this season and was the Gulf Coast Athletic
Conference Player of the Year. Xavier finished 28-6, won GCAC regular-season
and tournament championships and earned a berth in the NAIA Division I National
Championship. The Nuggets entered the national tournament with a 21-game
win streak, the second longest in the Nuggets' history.
Xavier's Bo Browder finished fourth in the voting
for Coach of the Year. Tulane's Lisa Stockton won that award.
A Louisiana Sports Writers Association panel selected
the team.
