ALMA MATER
In the Mississippi Valley,
In the Crescent Bend
Stands our loved and noble Xavier,
Far her praises send.
Refrain:
Wave her colors bear them onward
Gold and white so true
Hail to thee, all hail, dear Xavier
Hail, all hail, X.U.!
Xavier, ever be our guide
And lead us on the way,
Through life's journey, onward, upward
To the eternal day. (Refrain)

Powell receives more NAIA All-America honorable mention
March 23, 2010
NEW ORLEANS — For the second straight year
Xavier University of Louisiana's Brittany Powell received honorable mention on
the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball All-America Team.
It's Powell's second honorable mention on an
All-America team this season. She received the same distinction on the NAIA State
Farm Coaches' All-America Team a week ago.
Powell, a 6-foot senior forward/center from Milwaukee
and a graduate of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, led the Gold Nuggets
with 14.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots per game this season and
was the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year. Xavier finished 28-6,
won GCAC regular-season and tournament championships and earned a berth in the
NAIA Division I National Championship.
It's the fourth straight season a member of the Gold
Nuggets received All-America honorable mention. Jarryn Cleaves earned that
distinction in 2006-07 and 2007-08.
No one from the GCAC made the first, second or third
teams, each of which consisted of 10 players. Two other GCAC players, Tougaloo
sophomore Victoria Jones and Loyola senior Trenese Smith, received honorable
mention.
The NAIA Women's Basketball Coaches' Association
All-America Committee selected the team, which was announced Tuesday night
prior to the NAIA D-I national championship game between Union (Tenn.) and
Azusa Pacific.
