GCAC announces the addition of three new members

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The Gulf Coast Athletic
Conference announced Wednesday the addition of three new members for the 2010-11
athletic season. The three new members are Voorhees College, Fisk University
and Edward Waters College. They join Xavier University of Louisiana, Dillard University,
Southern University at New Orleans and Tougaloo College for the 2010-11 season.
Kiki Baker Barnes, president of the GCAC, had these
comments: "This is great day for the GCAC. I am thrilled about
the new schools that are joining us. I am looking forward to the new rivalries
and increased spirit that it will bring to all of our schools. I am looking
forward to expanding the conference even further in the years to come."
Voorhees College is located in Denmark, S.C.

Additional Information:
• In September five GCAC members — Belhaven, Loyola, Mobile, Spring Hill and William Carey
— announced they would join another NAIA Division I league, the Southern States Athletic Conference,
for the 2010-11 academic year.
• LSU-Shreveport announced in January that it would join another NAIA Division I league,
the Red River Athletic Conference, for the 2010-11 academic year.
• This is the 29th year of the GCAC, which first competed in 1981-82 with Belhaven, Dillard,
Louisiana College, Spring Hill, Tougaloo, William Carey and Xavier as charter members.
